Cold metalworking, welding and foundry tasks require different protection. Do not select footwear solely by outsole construction without identifying process temperatures and possible splash materials.
What's important?
Sharp and heavy material
Assess swarf, sheet metal and parts handling separately. Where the top of the foot is exposed, identify the necessary metatarsal protection in addition to toe and sole protection.
Hot surface and splash are different
Heat resistant sole information does not prove suitability for molten metal or weld spatter. Verify the scope and limitations of specific footwear appropriate to the task from the manufacturer's documentation.
Compatibility between protective equipment
Assess how footwear, trouser legs and any additional protectors work together. Address process controls that reduce splash risk and the layout of walkways before selecting footwear.
